MBE in recognition for Diverse FM contribution
Diverse FM is making a huge positive difference in the community and that’s official.
Following on from last month inclusion in the Independent on Sunday Happy List 2009, which named Ashuk Ahmed (one of the founder member and current Treasurer) as one of the hundred people who make Britain a better, more caring and contented nation, was recently included on Queen’s Birthday Honour List and have received an MBE for services to young people.
Most people who tune into Diverse to enjoy good music are probably not aware of the works that goes on off the air. Diverse FM is not just about entertaining the local community with playing good music or broadcasting different community language programmes.
In fact Diverse FM supports local young people, in particular from socio-economic disadvantaged and different community and social backgrounds to come together and develop a wide range of life skills, from gaining accredited training on Radio Broadcast & Presenting, First aid, child protection, project management to improving their literacy and numeracy skills, awareness on drugs and alcohol prevention, career advice and opportunities to take part in other programmes e.g. educational film productions, promoting local events, devising local business directory etc.
Diverse FM also provides local young people with opportunities to volunteer at the station and present their own show e.g. Youth Forum and Young People’s Hour.
In the last 12 months more then 200 young people has gained accredited learning outcome as well as many others has benefited from other programmes.
Diverse FM works in partnership with a number of local key partners including Police, PCSO, Integrated Youth Support Service, E2E, Learning and Skills Council, Schools, Youth Clubs and local voluntary groups to support young people with its unique and innovative youth engagement programme.
Our unique youth engagement programmes enables young people to focus their energies towards a positive outcome and help them to stay away from crime and anti social behaviour. It also helps young people to make a positive contribution in their community, neighbourhood and family.
